Getting to the Top: Gondola and Hiking Options

The most popular way to ascend Pilatus is via the gondola lift, which departs from Kriens and takes you all the way to the summit. To experience the full journey:

  1. Board the Gondola at Kriens, station stop “Pilatusbahn”. Stay seated at the first stop, Krienseregg, to continue your ride seamlessly. Alternatively, take a pause here to explore all that Pilatus has to offer.

  2. Transfer at Fräkmüntegg. Here, at the end stop of the gondola, switch to the aerial cableway known as the "Dragon Ride," which takes you directly to the summit of Pilatus.

For those who prefer an active approach, there are hiking trails leading partway or all the way up the mountain. Along the way, you'll encounter serene picnic spots, bubbling brooks, and breathtaking vistas. Alternatively, you can take the world's steepest cogwheel train up to Mount Pilatus from Alpnach. It’s a great option, especially when combined with a boat tour across Lake Lucerne.
